Thirty years ago this week, Being boiled by the Human League reached its highest position of number 6 in the UK singles chart. It had entered the top 40 two weeks previously at number 19 and broke into the top 10 in its second week while the group's previous single, Don't you want me, was still at number 5. After one week at its peak position, the song remained in the top 10 for one more week. A further three weeks in the lower top 40 followed before the record left the chart.

Being boiled was released on the EMI record label and was the fourth of eight UK top 10 hits for the Human League. The song had originally been released in 1978 but had failed to enter the top 40. It was taken from the group's gold-selling debut album Travelogue, which peaked at number 16 in the UK album chart.
