Ten years ago this week, The dark is rising by Mercury Rev entered the UK singles chart at its highest position of number 16. After one week at its peak position, the song remained in the top 40 for one more week then left the chart.

The dark is rising was released on the V2 record label and was the fourth of five top 40 hits for Mercury Rev in the UK. It was taken from the album All is dream, which peaked at number 11 in the UK album chart.
